Bitchin'
Last Sunday I graced Dreamcar Asia’s Dress Up Kar Event 2005(DUKE) uninvited. Why? Not that my job required it, but I saw opportunity…well…sorta…Large congregation of automotive gearheads equal frontpage scoops. “Don’t need to cover it, they never invited us” so my “superior” said. Luckily I don’t heed advices easily, why? Well his Rex was parked there on the very same day as well.
Why that overgrown car-story hoarding !@#$. Well so much for being in the same boat. I guess it was all for one and one for himself! Anyway let’s get back to the event. No we weren’t the official mag. CARMA was – how quaint. Yea and they had a massive number of booths there like a grand total of 4. WOW…there was DUKE, Nokia, Carma and Cool&Lite. Jolly good show I say.
The apparent lack of sponsors didn’t deter the motoring junkies from turning up though. Quite a crowd from start to end, not to mention the big workshops turned up by the numbers to showcase their latest projects. I was reading somewhere which stated tonnes of racequeens from Japan to be seen. All I saw were 2 local lasses acting coy about being racequeens. Don’t get me wrong, they were friggin’ hot but umm…Where’s my JAPPY racequeens?!?!
Possibly one of the highlights or maybe the low points was the winner of DUKE, an overgrown Estima with a floor scooper attached to its front, ENV’s Auto-Road Cleaner anyone? Goodness that’s like soooo 2001… I trekked over to the Rally ditty, not expecting much. Made my way to the starting line where I got a good shot. Not much really, Evo’s, Rexes, GTi’s, S13s – read BORING. Can’t wait for the Tuas track to be finished, then perhaps motorsports in our tiny island may finally take off!
Instead of the show, what I found more satisfying was combing the surrounding carparks for chiong chias, unearthed a couple of gems among all the posers. Really nice! Whilst for the rest of you morons, here’s some sound advice.
1. Seat covers with Ralliart on them should not be put in any car either than a Mitsu
2. TRD means Toyota Racing Development and NO they don’t do Hyundai(s). Same goes for STI, MzSpeed, MUGEN, NISMO
3. GT-wings are best left on Cars with the GT insignia and not your pathetic Vios or Crummy City.
4. Decals are nice unless your driving anything below 2000cc
5. For the uninitiated, Neon lights under any part of your car do not…I repeat DO NOT mysteriously add additional horsepower to your engine
6. Blowing your engine at traffic lights is ludicrous when your driving a 1.3L auto-car.
7. Having branded steering wheels, gear knobs, pedals and handbrakes do not make you a better driver and for that matter faster either.
8. Empty vessels make the most noise – this line holds true in the automotive world
9. Having 4 or more exhaust tips DO NOT make you faster.
10. Want to go faster? Save up and buy a better car! Duh!
