Singapore
Been reading up a lot into Singapore’s policies lately, and the trend is pretty disturbing. Let me share with you for those still in the dark with regards to certain schemes that have been implemented and what it means to us; the working class.
Flexi-Wage, the brainchild of the Tripartite Task Force, which comprises of 100 representatives from the Ministry of Manpower, S’pore National Employers Federation (SNEF) and National Trades Union Congress. Now this sorry bunch of yahoo(s) brought up this idea of having up to 50 per cent of our salary to be pegged to productivity and the company's performance otherwise known as Flexi-Wage Pay System.
Flexi my ass. What this means is that now your immediate superior or boss can calculate if the company has had a good financial year and tabulate just how much of profits he wants to share with you. Of course if your boss is the “niao” type then die lah… The company must operate in total transparency in order to be fair to employees. Bosses cannot act in total discretion (which they will eventually do).
As if sucking my hard earned cash through your Central Provident Fund isn’t enough, now my salary is going to be calculated by how well my boss thinks the company is doing??? You do the math, and screw the damned task force…
I’m sure by now you must have gotten wind of Naval Base’s High Tech Cashless Payment System for their school canteen. Yup you guessed it! They’re forcing little children whom otherwise have no use for an EZ-link card to use one just to purchase their meals. On top of that, the tots must deposit a $2 in order to use the system that is compulsory.
Have the authorities finally lost all sense? As if taxing us when we start working is bad. Now from the moment we have our meals while we are in primary school we are exposed to some form of government propaganda… Whoever came up with this presumptuous idea ought to be brutally murdered.
Children must learn the value of money, not use some card to buy their food, if from young they are brought up in this manner, sadly a child will never experience what it feels like to be clutching to a couple of coins in their hands and the feeling of actually using cash to pay for something.
As for whether this plan will be implemented all over our nation…I shudder to think. Right now to me the EZ-link is just a harder and thicker version of my Trans-link card. I don’t think it’s a step forward, think about all the potential problems that might arise, the card gets stolen, parents have to constantly top the card up as it pays for everything, kids might misplace the card, scanners might break down. And when either of this happens, the child can kiss his meal goodbye.
Alas, we are but mere peasants in the hands of our puppet masters. Back to stuff on the home front. Work timing has changed, been working 9am to 6pm for the last week or so. Can’t stand it, I can’t stay up late, can’t club on a weekday, got to fight with the peak hour crowd for standing space in the stupid train. All for what? A pathetic pay raise that isn’t even substantial.
I’ve been putting on the pounds lately, lots of eating and virtually zero exercise. Was comparing pictures about 3 months ago and current ones, had a pretty good scare. Been meaning to go swimming and getting a good workout but been always putting it on hold, *sigh… next week I should be able to squeeze in a couple of workouts. Erin’s having her exams and needs to study. So I should have enough time to do something (just not to tired I hope).
My PC’s explorer is still terminally dead; don’t know when I can get a new computer though. Anyone wanna donate PC to a internet deprived guy? Just leave a message in my mail if you do happen to have one (wishful thinking). My baby should be still asleep while I’m typing this, wish I could be with her, started missing her the moment I stepped out of the door. Love ya’ babe, I just hope 6pm arrives sooner…
